Artist Statement
I make paintings that mix street art, graphic design, and personal storytelling. My work is built on canvas or wood panels, finished with custom frames I build and paint myself. I use acrylic, spray paint, and mixed media elements to push color, pattern, and shape into new territory. I’m interested in what happens when you combine sharp lines with loose gestures, or when a checkerboard pattern collides with a neon color field. Every piece is a way to work through ideas about change, energy, and how we see the world around us.
Bio
I’m xaviergray, an artist based in Indianapolis. My art is about finding new ways to combine influences from street art, graphic design, and my own story. After a break from making art, I came back to it with a fresh perspective, experimenting with bold colors, patterns, and hand-built frames. The name xaviergray comes from my kids’ middle names—a reminder that this work is rooted in family and personal meaning.
Recent projects include the Velocity painting for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s “Welcome Race Fans,” custom Tag Heuer watch boxes for the 2025 Indy 500 (signed by 2016 Indy 500 winner Alexander Rossi), and interactive murals for the NCAA Horizon League. My goal is to make work that feels direct, energetic, and honest.
